PILOT PRE FLIGHT CHECK
This guide is to make sure your physically, mentally, and legally ready to pilot the aircraft.
IM SAFE Use this self assessment to make sure your physically and mentally fit to fly
Illness - If your sick or not feeling well don't fly. Even seasonal allergies can cause a great risk.
Medication - Even over the counter medications can impair you judgement and motor skills. Check to see if the medications your taking are approved for flight. Ask your AME if you have questions.

Stress - A little stress is ok but to much can effect your piloting skills. Make sure your being safe and not putting yourself or others at risk by flying stressed out.
Alcohol - No booze 8 hours before you fly. Blood Alcohol level below .04%. If you feel even a little bit hungover don't fly. Your still under the effects of alcohol. This is the minimum requirement but no booze 12 hours before you fly is much better. Or don't drink at all the day before a flight.
Fatigue - Plenty of sleep. If your not well rested mistakes will happen. Get at least 8 hrs of sleep before flying.
Emotion - Don't fly if your going through a death in the family, a break-up or divorce, or any mentally trying time. You may be unable to focus on the flight and mistakes will happen.
Exercise - Regular psychical activity is good for your heart, lungs, and overall health. It helps with stress and makes you feel more rested after a good nights sleep. Plus if flying at higher altitudes your body will be better prepared.
IM AIR Make sure your in the right frame of mind. Avoid these negative attitudes.
Impulsivity - Doing without thinking first
Macho - Showing off or I can do anything
Anti Authority - The rules don't apply to me or I don't need permission
Invulnerable - Nothing bad ever happens to me
Resignation - Doesn't matter what I do nothing changes
PIMC Required documents you must have to pilot an aircraft
Pilot license - Current and correct type for the flight
Identification - Picture ID
Medical Certificate - Current and correct class for the type of flight
Currency - 3 landings in the past 90 days to carry passengers day/night. Current flight review.
Proficient in and rated for the aircraft being flown.
